Vancouver A

Case 1

This 85-years-old female patient sustained a Vancouver A periprosthetic fracture of left non-cemented THR. The fracture involved the greater trochanter, displaced by the gluteus medius muscle. The lady presented pain and functional impairment for walking.

This fracture was reduced by a minimally invasive technique using the plate as a template with the patient in lateral position for a better control of the trochanter. The fracture was fixed with a 6 holes proximal femur periprosthetic NCB plate (PF PP) adding the trochanter plate.
The patient was discharged home allowing full weight bearing with the aid of a walker.

In the two months follow-up X-rays, the greater trochanter shows no displacement.

In the 18 months follow-up X-rays, the fracture shows complete healing with no migration of the trochanter.
